Check Gauge Question Hi, I'm pretty new to the fbody world,just brought a 96 Camaro z28 a few months ago,recently in the past few weeks my check gauge light will pop up and my temperature gauge shoots up to 260 degrees then goes back to normal maybe a minute later,this mainly happens when I first start driving the car,anyone else experience this issue or have any idea what it could be? Any help is appreciated

does the car overheat at all? If so, does it overheat while driving or when idling? Mine used to do the same thing when my thermostat was stuck. But first id suggest checking for coolant levels. Also bleed the coolant properly.
Also since ive got the same year as you, try to get access to a water temp gauge to find out your true reading. The needle on my car is way off.

No its not really overheating,it just randomly shoots up to 260 then goes right back to normal a minute or 2 later,but I will definetly check coolant levels and I'm just gonna replace the thermostat anyway
