Kinda both. The guy had the shortblock built and assembled, then he needed cash, so he sold everything. It was brand new and ready to go, just needed a set of heads and an intake bolted on and it ran. Unfortunately this kind of stuff happens all the time, so the deals are out there.

Also, don't think you need to spend $6k on a shortblock (or engine for that matter) for it to be able to handle boost. People make 1000+ hp all the time on Eagle crank and rods, and good pistons like JE or Diamond.

[QUOTE=IronOutlaw;15461207]This is what Im modeling my build after.
http://www.ellweinengines.com/Ellwei...Kit/355Kit.htm

So this looks like a pretty good build but it seems like you can buy a 383 short block for close to the same price and thats not finding a steal.... Am I missing something?

I have no idea where they got that number from. I would not run a stock crank with boost, and my personal opinion I wouldn't run Mahle pistons either.

If you read in my original post that build is for an NA stock stroke motor. I was suggesting that earlier in the thread because of your low budget. If you are serious about going forced induction then your gonna need stronger heavier duty parts. A lot of people do buy used or half built setups successfully, but I am too scared of getting ripped off. I figure I may end up spending more money, but I know exactly what parts are going into the motor from the bottom up.

Ya that makes sense as well... I think i have closed the door in the blower atleast for the forseable future.... I will just stick with a solid stroker build.....

What are the advantages of buying a short block versus rebuidling and boring a stock bottem end of the current motor?
