So this looks like a pretty good build but it seems like you can buy a 383 short block for close to the same price and thats not finding a steal.... Am I missing something?

I have no idea where they got that number from. I would not run a stock crank with boost, and my personal opinion I wouldn't run Mahle pistons either.[/QUOTS

If you read in my original post that build is for an NA stock stroke motor. I was suggesting that earlier in the thread because of your low budget. If you are serious about going forced induction then your gonna need stronger heavier duty parts. A lot of people do buy used or half built setups successfully, but I am too scared of getting ripped off. I figure I may end up spending more money, but I know exactly what parts are going into the motor from the bottom up.
What are the advantages of buying a short block versus rebuidling and boring a stock bottem end of the current motor?
