Default Engine Temp Issue

My Friend Recently Brought A 94 Trans Am Lt1 Bone Stock w/110k And After Putting Around 200 miles On It He Notixed The Temp Gauge Go Up But Not To The Red,He Popped The Hood And Smoke Was Coming From The Coolant Overfill Side??? (On the side of the battery) (note:the little bit of coolant that he said came out was dark and chunky)...Anyway He Took It Too A Shop Where They Topped It Off With Coolant And Basically Said He Had A Bad Head Gasket,But Every Since He Put Coolant In It The Temperature Gauge Doesn't Go As High As It Did And fluxuates Between 210 And 230,When He Is At A Stop It Goes Back Up,And When He Accelerates It Goes Back Down,Got The Coolant Flushed Today And Apparently It's Not Holding Fluid But No Evidence Of Leaking Under The Car???? o_O any advice or help would be appreciated Thanks

Check the oil to see if the oil level has gone up. That can be a sign coolant is getting into the oil through a bad head gasket. Also smell the exhaust and see if you smell coolant.

if its not holding coolant then its going somewhere. Small leaks can be a pain in the *** to find some times.

Could be a hose that has a little pin hole in it and getting on the exhaust and burning it someone pry put stop leak in it and clog it all up u should be able to tell real easy if it was a blown head gasket I blew a head gasket on the passenger side and u could smell it start the car and let it run for a while to get it good and hot put your hand behind the exhaust and check for moisture that could be a sign of a blown head gasket also

Update: He left it at the shop overnight and it finally filled up (they must not have put enuff in after the flush) but I will keep you guys posted

Sn:they had to rig the fans to the battery to get them to work

FYI: Fire the shop. Beyond retarded to hot wire the fans.

the one in the front of the water pump on the drivers side. Sometimes the connection can become Fowled so make sure the plug is good first.

also check the relays to make sure they are working. Just remember that stock fan settings in the pcm don't turn the fans on until around 220deg.

Low speed fan is on at 226 and high speed at 235. These engines run hot and yoyo between 235 and 210 in traffic.
