Default LT Headers install on an LT1???

I plan on installing my Jet Hot LT headers this coming weekend. My friends and I have experience installing LT's on LS1's. How much harder is the install on the LT1's? Do i really have to raise the motor a bit? My car is 94 TA is that helps at all.

Jack the motor up and inch or two, remove the steering column, and you'll be fine. They'll slide right in almost vertically.

You don't have to, but it sure will save you a hell of a lot of headache, and it's not that difficult to do.

What makes the difference in whether you have to jack up the motor or not is what tranny you have. If you have an Auto then you should not have to jack the motor up. The bellhousing design is totally different on the M6 which is what causes you to have to jack the motor up during a longtube header install. If you have an M6 then there is prolly a 90% chance you will have to jack the motor up.

To make it alot easier...take the steering linkage out like enisguy suggested. The drivers header will catch on it. In some cases (depending on which you use) the oil filter can get in the way on the drivers header aswell. If you use a large filter like I do then you may need to remove it also.

Put a 2x4 on a jack and place the jack on the front of the bellhousing. Next remove the nut from the motor mount bolt, slightly jack the motor up to loosen and remove the bolt then jack the motor up. You will have to find a comperable position for the jack and 2x4 so as not to get in the way of the header when installing.

another easy trick that frees up more room than you could imagine is taking off the valve covers. On my header install, the header flange that the primaries connected to would hit the valve covers when i tried to slide/twist/pivot/manuever the headers down onto the side of the block. By taking them off, it gave me that extra inch or two that i needed to allow me to install my headers without jacking up the motor. Pulling the steering column was the best thing I ever did installing all of the headers I have used.

from my experience, it's real easy. just a bolt or two (my friends have always doen it on their Ls1's. Wabird: On your reply earlier about the headers being cheaper, it might also have to do with how far you live from the company, therefore shipping cost might be the difference.

I had to raise the passenger side on my 96" WS-6. It was the worst header install ever. i unhooked and hooked back up the battery so many times, the VATS ended up going out, and that was $50 that I didn't have to get it fixed.
