Default Going with A JASPER 355

Im going to be picking up a Jasper 355, for $1,100...

Its got 2k miles on it, big improvement from my 140k stock LT1..

Jasper says it comes with 333hp/375tq and Im already full bolt on's... So Im thinkin bout either going with the Hotcam kit or just gettin a cutom grind from L.E.

I would like to put down over 350rwhp with this cam only 355...

What are your thoughts?

Any cam would get you there honestly. Can't beat the price of the hotcam thats for sure.

I personally would put something other than the hot cam in it. A little more aggressive cam would still be streetable but be better hp/doller wise.... IMO.

Wouldn't waste time on the hotcam...

What is a Jasper 355 anyway? Specs?

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the hotcam. I believe Jasper is a company that sells rebuilt engines and transmissions for numerous vehicles

They are; I have one and I hate it. I've had two Jasper engines **** connecting rods because of poor oil pressure. I deeply regret buying one.

Hotcam cars have run deep into the 11's and you can pick up the cam for under $100 if you search.

I have a Jasper BP TH-350 in my 69 and have nothing but good things to say about it.

I've got a hotcam for sale, $100 shipped. It has one flaw, but it is on the backside of the ramp so it shouldn't matter. (My engine builder looked at all my lifters twice, all still smooth.)

I had a Jasper reman in my 83 Z28. That 350 took all the abuse I threw at it.

Those HP numbers they gave you are engine dyno numbers so they are better than you would see with accessories and full exhaust and all. Hell they are lower than I would expect from a completely stock LT1 tested the same way.

You are buying a bottom of the barrel reman engine, I would sooner use a junkyard engine if looking for a performance base to build on.

The ONLY thing a company like Jasper has going for them is offering warranty on commuter car engines, I might consider them for a new engine in the wife;s car just to get warranty but never would I consider them for something I was going to tinker with and void the warranty or expect performance from.

I, myself, have the Jasper 355, sadly I didn't get mine as cheap. It's a great engine though, no complains here. Also you can never go wrong with the Hotcam kit.

I wouldn't bet on that. What's wrong with your 140k LT1? If it has no major issues right now, it will probably end up outlasting that Jasper engine.

i agree with this. I bought my camaro with 150k and beat the **** out of it until almost 190k. and when i mean beat it, im serious ......if i just wouldnt have started chasing the dog in it after i drank to many beers and forgot to turn the fans on.....itd probably still have the stock motor in it.

I live about 60 miles from Jasper. I used to live even closer and had friends that worked there. They said they make make descent engines for your daily driver but not for anything you want to beat on. This was about 10 years ago so I don't know if anything has changed.

I'd say it hasn't changed in 10 years.
Used to live closer, huh? I grew up in the grand metropolis of St. Anthony, about 10 miles from Jasper, along SR64 toward Clarksville.

I grew up in Corydon. Just moved from there 2 years ago.
