Exhaust ports 2 middle exhaust ports close together (lt1) equally spread apart (ls1) ... valve covers are they oval shaped (ls1) or rectangles (lt1) ... 4 coils mounted to the valve cover (LS1) ... Top of intake manifold black (ls1) silver (lt1) ... Throttle body has a black rectangular plate (lt1) ... Thats a few of the easiest ways to identify an Lt1/Ls1

As already stated, if the transmission itself is good, that alone whether LS or LT is worth $1k, better snag it before someone else does!
Last week I got a 64k miles, 2004 5.3, 4l60e, and everything, I mean everything for $1200. Coils, all accessories, radiator, condenser, the fuel system up to the lines to the tank, wire harness, relay/fuse box, PCM, etc..... The deals are out there, looks like you found one. Jump on it!

Definitely pick it up regardless. The tranny is worth AT LEAST 700 and even an LT1 can fetch 500. You could easily make a few hundred dollars. The only way you can get screwed on that deal is if the tranny is toast and the motor is fucked.

Ok fellas. It is an lt1. With aluminum heads. Long story short, come to find out, the old guy I bought it from was a part of some "old guys racing group". It was only a few of them, but now they're getting out of thw sport only to start skydiving. This engine was one of the partners that just totalled his 98 camaro. Engine has 80k fresh. T-56 as well. Question I have is how do I tell what vehicle this engine was originally in so I can get the right harness and ecu or do they all fit the same?

Paul Bell, I was looking for either of the two, which ever one my pocket could afford and was in good shape. I'm building a hybrid street car. A 1988 Mazda rx7 turbo 2 body and rear end with a transplanted lt1 engine and a t-56 6 speed tranny. Nothing to fancy yet. Just something different and unexpected. However, I was told about this forum to check out as you guys have some of the best lt1's and very helpful info (thanks by the way!!!). I did recently pick up an lt1 with aluminum heads last week. Once I get the car up and running respectably, I will go get an ls1 and then go all out!!!
