Default Is it .030 or .040 over?

I have a LT1 shortblock sitting here. Problem is the guy that wants to buy it doesn't want it if its more than .030 over.

Pistons are SRP's, only number I can find on them is 40F. J&E wasn't very helpful when I called, they said an actual part number should be on them, by the wrist pin. Well not in my case.

Anyone know if this piston used in a LT1 is .030 or .040 over?

If you have a caliper you can measure them.

Yep. Just take a caliper to the bore.

Well you can narrow things down if you provide more info. Is is stock rod length at 5.7"? Is it stock stroke at 3.48"? If they are SRP, the are most likely forged. Are they dome, inverted dome, or flat top? If you know that you can go here, http://www.jepistons.com/Catalogs/SRP/Chevy_SB.aspx and narrow down what part you likely have. But from the looks of it like other have said you'll have to measure it.

the 40F are forged. SRP does not make non forged pistons. for that size difference, you need a caliper, you will not be able to tell looking at it.

I ended up using a machinist ruler to make a judgement of .030. Buyer brought a caliper with him, the shortblock is off to its new home!
