Default sunoco and ls1 lid -not fitting so far

I finally got around to putting the hood on the car and after clearancing the hood to go down around the lid, i still have about 3/8- 1/2" that will not come down. something is touching or in the way. Anyone with the same setup have a pic of your lid? Mine is SLP, not sure if it's too tall or something else is going on.

Did you grind down the bottom of the filter housing? I had to thin mine out pretty good and even lift the hood latch very little. It is a very tight fit but it works. You cannot tell the hood is lifted a tad. Well worth it IMO

i had it ground down when I was running the ls1 clip with a SS spoiler and that fit fine. I'm going to take it all out and see if the hood will close. any chance you have some pics of yours?

I'm assuming you have to correct radiator support? If you got the ws6 one it won't work. I got mine to fit but I have a Glasstek hood. But like stated you gotta grind the **** outta the bottom of the support so that everything sits almost flush with the core support. Also consider moving the hood latch up slightly on the core support, I did that n it made a big difference

Yes I have the regular ls1 stuff, no ws6 box.

Honestly guys, the quality of this hood from VFN is junk. I have a 98-02 VFN hood to compare side by side and the lt1 is just garbage. Very thin, doesn't fit well, hits the cowl, and the latch on the hood needs to be spaced down to close without slamming it. I bought it used, but I wouldn't buy this thing again, as much as I like how it looks overall.

Sorry to hear you are not happy with it. Maybe different batch? I am very pleased with mine. Fits like a glove...

How does the bottom of that plastic support look? Did you cut it down? I took a cutoff wheel on a dremel (well, like 10 wheels lol) and kept cutting it lower and thinner until it fit.

i did trim it pretty good, I'll take some pics of it tonight and post up the carnage . I basically cut all the support under it so that the factory sides are in contact with the radiator support.

ok guys, here are the pics.

First is the fit on with no radiator support or lid.

here's what I did the the lower box and how it fits...

and here's how far I can get it with the lid on... I've got about 1.0-1.25" to close the gap.

how does this compare to you guys?

Looks way off. Also on the underside of the radiator support I ground it down to almost flush. So there was nothing left. I'll have to see if I can get some pics. Try. Get some pics of underneath the hood too.

lots more trimming to do on the lower air box/radiator support

+ my hood and lid are both trimmed to fit yet still have a very slight rubbing issue

ha!
I've been trying this out over the last week as well... I'll try & get some pics but I'm pretty sure I took off a lot more underneath the rad support. Hood was cut out underneath & I'll need to reinforce/fibreglass that.
Also, what made the biggest difference was I mounted the rad support further back (like you see in all the write ups). I used some self tapping screws to bolt it all down. Really close but not perfect yet.

The only possible issue might be the angle that the MAF comes down to the throttle body (haven't gotten there yet)

thanks Larry, that looks paper thin, I guess I do have a ways to go still.

you have any pics from the side so I can get a feel for how much total I'm dealing with? or maybe take a measurement for me on the side height?

I wish my car was accessible for me to show you some pics. I shaved it down waaaay more. It took a while though. Constant trial and error. Just kept testing it every so often for fit, then continued shaving it down and so on/so forth.
