Lightbulb ATI MRT Treemaster 8" Converter 4L60E people come on in....got a ? for ya...

Looking for results........opinions...........experiences on the MRT 8" ATI converters............think im finally going to break down and make the switch.........plus i can finally get the stall speed i need for this motor.......the 9.5" 5200 vigilante just still isn't cutting the mustard....

my main question is.......do i have to hack off the lockup shaft at the end of the input shaft to run this converter?? ive heard mixed answers on this.......id rather not have to do that lol..........

Mike,
No, you do not have to do anything like that.
The ONLY thing I've done is eliminate the lockup in the program. I don't know how that applies to you with your non-GM controller.
I've switched back and forth between the ATI non-lock and 9.5" lockup converters.
You will love the ATI. Far better street manners (snappier) than the high stall 9.5" TC's. And it's LIGHT! - that alone is worth a few hundredths!
The expert at ATI is Charlie.

sweet!!! then all i need to do is disconnect my TCC switch i have now just incase i hit the butotn i wont launch it........good thing about the ATI is i can finally get the converter into the car that it needs......ATI wants to run a 6000 stall in it.......should be able to put this sucker right on the bumper if i cant get it to flash that high up into the torque range.......the flash is why the car was faster on the bumper than it was on the ground......it was easier for the motor to pull the front end up to flash the motor up into power than it was to push the car forward........would run 1.39-1.41 on the ground.....let it yank the tires and it was cutting 1.32-1.35's with about a 3 foot wheelstand........ATI is telling me over the converter i have now i could expect big gains over a tenth an a couple of mph......apparently the 5000 9.5" vig is really inefficent at this range and is also just the wrong coverter for my car........should be pretty sweet....theres a 9.90 index class NHRA that i want to try and run next year....

I'm certain you'll see those gains.
Even though my car is at the low end of the spectrum where that 8" Treemaster is designed to work at (mine flashes to 4200-4400 behind my motor), I had a couple of custom 9.5" converters sent to me free of charge to try and none of them could beat it.
It will really be "in its element" in your car. Exciting stuff!!!
Funny what you mentioned about 'on the bumper' and 'on the ground'. Despite what we hear about "upward motion is wasted motion", the quickest Impala NHRA stocker guys are all doing big wheelies. You're gonna scare the crap out of yourself on a sticky track!

Probably the best money you will spend on that junk car! I don't know that I would go that loose. You will gain a bunch just due to the reduced weight and better technology that you are buying.

yea i agree.........and yea 6000 seems awefully loose.....i figured a 55-5600 maybe...........i mean its got a 5000 now and its not enough but i know the ati will be a totally different animal........makes peak torqe at 6100 and peak power at 7450........what do you think it needs? u know my weight and gear/tire

Mike, FWIW, my ATI 8", which flashes to 4200-4400 on motor in my car, 60's better than the closest custom-built 9.5" I tried, which flashed to 4600-4800. And the ATI is more "coupled up" going down track - better both in ET and mph. So, GIZMO makes a good point that you may not necessarily need as much rated stall as you'd pick in a 9.5". Mike Harris has the identical converter to mine and it flashes to 5000 behind his SR stroker.
BUT.....I would dump all your data and all these thoughts on Charlie at ATI. He WILL come up with the best converter for you.

If it was me I would try 5000-5200. That way you will be comparing apples to apples. As fast as your car goes through 1st gear you may actually miss your "sweet spot" if you stall it too high.

^very valid point daren.........my only worry about stalling too low though is my shift extension.....i have to keep the car above 6500rpm at all times or it slows down dramatically

Wouldn't the tighter converter wouldn't actually help in this area? Either way, it is no big deal to get it changed if you don't like it. The other thing is that your car will like different stall converters and gearing in different air. So, it will be very hard to cover all the bases with one converter. Only testing will tell the whole story.

That's exactly the info ATI needs to know. I wouldn't even worry about what number the rated stall turns out to be, as long as they have all of your concerns and info, it will be right.

I have an ATI 8" 4500 Stall for my MVB TH350 that goes into my MCSS.. pretty good street manners, put it in gear and the car will move at idle. **** snaps off the line pretty good..flashed at 5k and stayed above it the whole time.
