Looking for results........opinions...........experiences on the MRT 8" ATI converters............think im finally going to break down and make the switch.........plus i can finally get the stall speed i need for this motor.......the 9.5" 5200 vigilante just still isn't cutting the mustard....
my main question is.......do i have to hack off the lockup shaft at the end of the input shaft to run this converter?? ive heard mixed answers on this.......id rather not have to do that lol..........

Mike,
No, you do not have to do anything like that.
The ONLY thing I've done is eliminate the lockup in the program. I don't know how that applies to you with your non-GM controller.
I've switched back and forth between the ATI non-lock and 9.5" lockup converters.
You will love the ATI. Far better street manners (snappier) than the high stall 9.5" TC's. And it's LIGHT! - that alone is worth a few hundredths!
The expert at ATI is Charlie.

I'm certain you'll see those gains.
Even though my car is at the low end of the spectrum where that 8" Treemaster is designed to work at (mine flashes to 4200-4400 behind my motor), I had a couple of custom 9.5" converters sent to me free of charge to try and none of them could beat it.
It will really be "in its element" in your car. Exciting stuff!!!
Funny what you mentioned about 'on the bumper' and 'on the ground'. Despite what we hear about "upward motion is wasted motion", the quickest Impala NHRA stocker guys are all doing big wheelies. You're gonna scare the crap out of yourself on a sticky track!

BUT.....I would dump all your data and all these thoughts on Charlie at ATI. He WILL come up with the best converter for you.

Wouldn't the tighter converter wouldn't actually help in this area? Either way, it is no big deal to get it changed if you don't like it. The other thing is that your car will like different stall converters and gearing in different air. So, it will be very hard to cover all the bases with one converter. Only testing will tell the whole story.
