Default Good Bye HOT CAM...

I will always have respect for the Hot Cam but it's time to move on. One of my lifters collapsed on cylinder #6. The "spider tray" was bent in the process and caused the lifters to bounce on the cam flatting the rollers and scaring the intake and exhaust lobes pretty bad! I'm looking for a cam that will allow me to shift at 6400rpm. I also need a recommendation on a good timing chain set for the OLDER STYLE opti and electric water pump. Thanks...

I would go with the cc503 a good 10-15 horse across the entire rpm range over the hot cam, 1 step up. EWP CSR and the timing chain probably GM or cloyes.

The 230/236 whould be a great am also. As far as timing chain goes. The stock 1 is all thats out for the non vented opti. Try swappin over to a vented opti. YOu can run a double roller with the vented. Thats what im doin now.

Depends on what you are looking for really. The 6300 shift point doesnt say much. Do you want your power low, middle, high etc?

I would suggest the cc 465. It makes gobs of low end torque, where you drive the most, it spins to @ 6000 rpm and has great driving characteristics. Of course and you didnt mention it but I will, you will have to change your springs no matter which cam you choose.

i'd do a 305. you're loose enough for maybe even a 306. tried and tested... there may be newer better cams (maybe some the others have mentioned), but when all this started, 305 and 306 cams were where it was at for N/A 350ci cars.

I got the 230/236 XE...good cam for a 350, but a got it in my 383. It got me over 400 hp and tq with my setup. Get you a good valve train and some head work, get a custom grind from AI or LE. I'd also stick with 1.6's like mentioned above.. Best thing to do is match your setup....bigger does not always mean better. IMO I made a mistake getting the 230/236

I like my XFI 280 which is a 230/236. I was shifting it at 64-6600.

Hotcam served me well while the car was on daily duty for three years and still serves me well as a weekend warrior. Nitrous helps

But definitely a good time to upgrade while you are tearing into the engine. If I could, I would.

I daily drove with the hotcam for about two years, now daily driving on the 503. Pretty happy with it. So if on a budget the 503 isn't a bad choice.

I have 1.7rr, I also have AFR 180cc heads with .600" lift springs. I have the stock short block so I don't want to rev past 6400rpm. I want strong mid - top end power. What about LE 226/232? A.I. is too expensive...

I would talk to someone about a custom grind. They can probably set up with something that will work with your rockers and still be stable.

shouldnt be. its there to hold down the mechanisms that keep the lifters from twisting in their bores. ask around on here to be sure there are no clearance issues with the links vs the boss between the lifter bores.

Dont know if one is better than the other, but the XFI 230/236 has faster ramp rates and a different lobe design.I am running the XE grind, has great mid and top, pulls hard. You will need to get some 1.6 rockers though.
