Default cloyes timing chain install issue.

I'm installing the cloyes double roller timing chain on my car (part# 9-3145) during my cam swap. I'm running into an issue with the water pump drive gear hitting that cam gear chain. Anyone have any suggestions on what I could possibly do about this?

I would guess most people remove the w/p driveshaft, since you can't use a mechanical pump with the double roller.

Yeah, I did that. Now there is a gaping hole in the block and the timing cover. Is there anything that I can put in place of the drive gear?

You can leave the hole open.

And go to a machine shop and get a freeze plug for the timing cover OR use a quarter and some JB weld and close the hole on the timing cover..
Take the old seal out first!

So its ok to leave that hole open in the block? It won't mess with my oil pressure or anything? And no, I have to buy an ewp now.

Correct,It has nothing to do with oil pressure, and yes on the EWP unless you go back to your stock type timing setup

go down to the parts store and buy a freeze plug and take it to a grinder lightly to the right size. they dint have the right size where i live. but press the new one with sillicon. mine been good for years now. they also make a alumuim one on ebay that you can weld in place on the timming cover
