dead battery on my 96 ws6

Default dead battery on my 96 ws6

I have a 96 ws6 and my brother-in-law just recently replaced my clutch. before, my car could sit for days and start rite up now if it is not started within a couple of days the battery dies. I could use some advise as to what could be causeing this. any help would be great.

Get the battery tested at autozone or whatever for free first...could just have gone bad. Does the battery charge when it's running (does your alternator work)?

Older battery + cold + not running a few days = dead. Your car will always pull some power. Radio, alarm
Ect.

yes it charges when the car runs. your probably right cause it does have a lot of extras on it like tacs and nitrous and other mods. I just recently aquirred the car so i'm still discovering what all this thing has on it. thanks for the help

Step one, disconnect the ground cable.

Step two, check the drain with an ammeter. Make sure everything is off and the doors are closed.

Then you'll know.

So Big Al, u take a multi meter on DC setting and put it across the battery and watch for a drain with the neg cable off, am i tracking right? If so that will be no way to narrow down what the drain is just that there is one right? How to figure what is draining it?

I have no idea what you have for a meter but you want to check current drain from the negative cable to the battery, with the cable disconnected naturally.

Start on a high scale and work your way down. Be sure EVERYTHING is off and the doors are closed.

He removes the positive cable, but it's safer to remove the negative. The test is the same. Black wire from the meter to the battery post, red to the cable. The normal current drain with everything off should be less than .2 Amps or 200 MA.

Sounds like time for a new battery. My car sits for weeks at a time in the summer and all winter. I had the same problem. I got a new battery and a battery tender. Problem solved. This past year I got a Optima red top, problem really solved. Turns out the Autoturd I mean Autozone batteries are crap smh theres a shocker.

There is a power module that stays hot for about 10 minutes after the car is shut off on '96+ cars which will show up as a loss. Make sure the module is off before testing.

Thanks for the link, are u talking about the module that lets u have power to the radio and windows for 10 min after u turn the car off, or open the door. If so my 93 T/A has the same thing.

Sure. First list all the aftermarket stuff that's been added. Things like audio amplifiers, alarms and so on.

Would really help to know what your meter showed. That would rule out lots of stuff. I usually check things like the lamp in the glove box and so on. You can usually tell by opening the lid and seeing if the bulb is real hot.
