I can get a video up of mine after I get back home when the semester ends, in about a week. No there's no balance pipe of any kind, it's actually fairly similar to what you are wanting to do except there's an extra couple feet of tubing before the mufflers.

On my red camaro, I had true duals with dynomax bullets dumped before the axle. I hated how loud and toneless that car was. I love my TSP rumbler catback, so I'd at least vote for the hooker over TD's. You;ll hate the drone with a stock cammed car.

Do that catback on a bolt-on LT1. It'll sound great.

If you decide you want loud, and raspy with no tone, then do a cutout later.

I had duals on my car for years and finally got tired of them. The drone at cruising just got old. It did sound good though. I since went with a flowmaster 3" -4" y-pipe and made my own 4" exhaust into a single in/ single out hooker max flow muffler with it hidden at the rear bumper. It sound amazing.

I had pacesetter LTs and cattless y and magnaflow muffler on my old lt1. Sounded great, but the 1800-2400 "drone" was awful. From everything I read, keeping the cat does a huge amount for drone.

I think you should get an aftermarket Y pipe and run a chambered muffler right after the y... relatively cheap but it will sound pretty damn good. If you want it to be a bit louder, opt for a bullet muffler off the Y instead of a chambered muffler.

also dumping at the rear axle doesn't help either.

ive got 2 turbo mufflers, both of them coming right off of each one of my LT headers, i just got my lt1 running again so i just threw them on there so i could break in my motor, i tried open headers but as it tunrs out the peoples whos car alarms i set off didnt seem to like it too much
they sound sick at idle and when i get on it, the drone is horrible though! and they scrape, EVERYWHERE.
anyways, imo, DO NOT go just straight mufflers off the headers if its not just a temp system, also the driver side header is especially hard to fit a muffler on because the floor comes down so low.

I have Jet hot LT's into a 3" slp TOTL with a Magnaflow muffler and it's loud so I sure duals would sound even louder.

But if there are hp and torque gains, I'll be doing it.

I'd go with Hooker. Friends told me that they could hear me coming before they even saw me (about 3/4 mile away with buildings/trees in between). It is tame at idle and loud when you're on it.

I'll be installing TD's over the axle instead of dumped which should keep the drone and noise down until I step down on it.

I'll reiterate the above - LOUD GETS OLD FAST.
Loud gets old very fast, the older you get lol. And it seems like it only takes 2 weeks of getting older, for loud to get old. Id vote for the hooker but i have no idea what it sounds like (in person) on long tubes with ory and a cam.

How about the best of both worlds, x pipe and Mangaflow bullet mufflers, 2.5"...
