What would you do?
Comp 503 cam: 296.95
Comp 26918 springs: 187.95
TrickFlow guideplates: 48.99
Comp 850-16 lifters: 209.95
Comp Ultra Pro Magnum rockers 1605-16 (1.6 - 7/16" stud): 332.95
Comp Magnum pushrods: $95.00
========================
under $1200.00 and you can forget about having to buy rockers, at least, when you go for the turbo build. Most of the above can be had used if you look, for a lot less.
Aside from the engine, there's a bit more to address.
you'll also want at least a 2500-2800 stall for that cam and 3.42 gears or better for an A4 if you can find a used rear. If it's a track car you'll want it to hook, so start looking into suspension. You might want to start with adding LCAs.
-AND- you can start doing weight reduction for free.
EDIT: forgot rocker studs. 7/16" ARP or Comp. Be sure to get some with a base thread long enough to accomodate the guideplates' thickness, which will reduce the number of usable threads going into the cylinder head.
