Default Pulley Removal

I am replacing the opti, water pump, radiator, and timing cover seals. I am down to this underdrive pulley. I am using an 8 inch 3 jaw puller. Since I didn't put it on I am unsure of how it comes off. Let me explain.

I put the puller on it and cranked it until I thnk it started to bend the pulley. Upon closer inspection I am unclear if the pulley goes over the crank snout or not. Yes it s nasty because of the leaking seals and I will clean it all when opti is removed and seals replaced.

Any have one of these underdrive pulleys and know how they go on?

Thanks.

put the crank pulley bolt back in and use the puller off the bolt. your most likely trying to press the pulley off itself! thats bad btw lol

You have to have something in the crank bolt hole to push on.. Your just clamping the pulley and trying to crush it, further more you will have to drop the pan in the front to get the timing cover out of the pan/cover seal... Good luck

Kind of what I was thinking, It did not have a crank bolt in the end of it just the three balancer bolts on the ears.

I tried a smaller bolt in the center and pulling against it. I bent the bolt. I will get a grade 8 and give it a try. Does anyone know the size of the crank bolt? I think jury rig Joe worked on ths thing it only had 5 bolts on the water pump!

Isn't this some crap! A damn pulley!

The stock Bolt is 7/16-20 x 2 1/2 ... I suggest getting proper tools and a Haynes manual .. Make sure to use an extra long bolt threaded all the way in till it stops to push on so your not pushing on the threads.. It must be so long it's not tightening the pulley down or the hub still won't back off... The crank threads won't take much abuse before they are ruined so don't try to reinstall the hub/pulley with the replacement stock bolt, you will strip it out ...

Thanks I wll get a crank bolt tomorrow. I do have a Hanyes manual but it doesn't discuss underdrive pulleys. I got to get a water pump bolt anyway.

Thanks again for all your help!

Fuuuuuuck. Behind the underdrve pulley there is a crank bolt on the crank hub. I used a 3/8" X3" grade 8 bolt to rest against the crank bolt, Cranked on the pulley and bent the bolt! I am ready to cut this fuckng pulley off and not use the underdrive crap anymore.

I ended up using a holesaw in the end of the pulley to access the crank hub bolt. Pulled off crank hub with underdrive pulley pressed on. See pics.

Thanks for everyones help just a weird one.
