Default New to lt1 ????

Ok guys first off a little history. Just got a 94 z28 with a broken connecting rod and bent valve with a brand new built trans. I'm not looking to build a 10 sec car but at least something fun to drive. My question is about the short block should I find a used one on cl and rebuild or try one of those Mabbco short blocks out of Tyler tx. I'm gonna send my heads to Lloyd Elliot for le1 with cam. Thanks

whats wrong with the actual block itself? If only the rod is broken i would just buy new internals. Just get it rebuilt. You dont have to get anything forged if you dont plan on dramatic power, but a nice set of pistons, rods, and bolts should really freshen up your engine. Should go very well with LE heads/cam

jb weld and scotch tape works wonders with iron blocks jk. Ive never had any experience with mabbco engines but their prices seem to be pretty expensive. Are you set on an lt1 or are you considering an lsx too? Id buy a cheap used one in good condition and build it from the top to bottom.

Look on craigslist and junkyards for motors. If your just gonna be using the block and crank chances are if you can turn the crank then its rebuildable and don't be afraid to low ball a lil on craigslist.

Ok just bought a lt1 out of a cop car but it's got hella sludge but for 150 for a running engine couldn't turn it down. Guess Im gonna do a full tear down and measure everything. which manual should I buy? What removes sludge the best?

It's probably one of the most comprehensive how-to rebuild books for an LT1. Has all that stuff, and more.
