Question

I just pick up a 96 Trans am lt1 and it runs and all but it has been sitting for a long time and it has a cylinder 4 misfire. Where should I check first ? Can gas that has been sitting in there cause the misfire? And what is a good way to drain all the old gas?

First go to the parts store and buy 8 spark plugs.... tr55 for a stock car. also get a set of plug wires...

next go home and replace these items on your car... making sure the wires are away from the manifolds/hot objects. use of zipties could be required.

check cylinders number 4 wire. It may be loose and also check the spark plug to see its condition. How long has it been sitting for without being turned on?

the car had a tune up in 2007 and the kid drove it home from the shop and let the car sit because he didnt have money to fix the oil leak.

Check number 4 wire and plug then. They may have cracked the insulator installing the plug or not have kept the plug wire clear of the exhaust. On that side another place to check the plug wire is behind the Acc. belt. It gets real close to the belt where it comes off the opti down by the crank and if they didn't take the time to rought the wire up behind it nice and tight it could rub the belt. Also some times they rought those wires to tight and it can actually pull on the boot and unplug the wire from the opti.
