Default Fuel level is off on gauge cluster.

Ever since i've owned my LT1 the gauge has always read

1/2 tank = Almost empty
Full tank = Half tank
Way off the gauge = Full

Any ideas why? I pulled the unit when I installed my 255 pump and nothing looked to be broken.

Yeah that's normal because of the shape of the tank

Maybe you snagged the fuel level arm when you installed the walbro and now the values are all out of wack. I had to replace my fuel level sensor a few years back because the wires at the very top got hot and would short out. I new gm had issues win the grey and purple wires doing this all the time. Since I replaced it the gas gauge reads much closer until it hits 1/4 tank.

This has been one of the most common and notorious problems with the LT1 f-body since it came out in 1993. The level sender only measures the level in the tank and since the tank itself is shaped like an upside down triangle there's less in the bottom and more in the top.

Short version, you're going to just have to deal with it.

Did anyone ever develop a fix for this issue? Not that it bothers me, I've grown used to it and its the least of my concerns right now anyways.

My gauge does the same thing. Once the needle hits the full mark I start heading for the gas station. Before I installed my walbro the gauge was very accurate so I think it may have something to do with the fuel level sensor.

My gauge always read this way, even before the pump swap.

My car does the same thing after I installed my walbro. I'm sure we touched something we shouldnt have while installing it cuz it use to work perfectly before that. I've not looked at it since i've just dealt with it.

Mines actually fairly close. It's about an 1/8 off. It's a 97. The 93 we had was way off. Used to always run out around 1/8 to 1/16th before E.

Its very simple to fix. Take apart your dash, remove the plastic cover over the gauges, take a fork and pop off your gas needle, go fill up to the absolute max, pull off to the side and with the car running for a couple minutes reinstall the needle on the F mark.

Problem? Solved.
