Just do the trap door, believe me. I've done it both ways and 30 mins vs 5 hours.

I would suggest making the square cut...but at the top left side cut a 2-3 inch wide slot to have better access to the fuel fittings. Trust me it helps greatly.

You would have a heart attack then if you would have seen how many times I cut the body lines of my 69' Camaro to get the wheels to fit.

I just put a new fuel tank and pump on my car. Removing and installing the tank is a much bigger pain in the a$$ than it should be. Maybe it's easier if you have a lift, but with only jacks and jackstands, I considered pushing my car into a sinkhole. The only thing that stopped me was that I didn't have access to a sinkhole.

Having said that, I'm one of those **** guys that has a problem with cutting a hole in their car.

I have ALWAYS replaced the pump the correct way, generally taking me 1.5 hours on the ground and roughly 1 hour on a lift...... Cannot honestly say how many pumps I have done since 1988(had my own shop) however I have owned a bunch of f-bodies and have only replaced 4 defective pumps so I do not see the need in cutting the floor.....
********SIDE NOTE********
If I was stuck on the side of the road with a dead pump I would damn sure appreciate having the access panel!!!

Dremel and tin snips. These cars will never be collectable so keeping them mint to hold value is rediculous.

For the guys saying they would rather do the job right instead of cutting a small hole in an area that is never seen, are you totally against installing mini tubs too?

True but I'm just saying I bet people in the 60s and 70s felt the same way about 1st gens as we do about 4th gens

They probably did feel the same way, which is why unmolested first gens go for so much. That said, the cars from that era are different. I don't honestly believe there will ever be cars worth as much to as many people again. And at any rate the lt1 cars will always be the reheaded stepchild.

No they aren't 69 z28s but I see potential.....maybe it will be just because of the engine...maybe it wont....either way I don't care cuz that just means I wont have to worry about breaking the bank to get one

I cut mine. It was easy, and i made a nice plate that bolts back on top to seal it back up. It is WAY better than dropping the tank....

I dont see potential in these cars, the first gens are rare because get this... That body style was produced for 3 years only and even then each year looked different. and got a complete make over for the 70 style.
