Default Oil Pump Drive stub question..

I installed my oil stub, the plastic shaft is flush againt the block, but the mount tab where the bolt goes has about a 1/4" space between it and the block. Is this normal or is there a spacer of some kind that I'm missing??

The drive gear is not seated correctly on the cam gear. Pull it out and try again.

Yep had that same issue before, just give it another try or two and it will sit flush.

I would guess the issue is it not being engaged to the oil pump driveshaft properly.
The cam gear is nice and tall, you got those teeth to mesh, it is the much shorter engagement to the pump shaft that would be more like 1/4"

If you're doing a cam swap and the timing chain and valvetrain is not installed yet you can turn the cam while applying downward pressure on the oil pump drive stub and when it aligns with the oil pump drive shaft it will drop down all the way.

Just set the stub in the hole, pull the coil wire off and crank the motor over for a about one second and the thing will align and drop into position perfectly. Done.

That works on a regular SBC, but on an LT1...with the intake manifold off, pull the coil wire and tap the starter??? First thing, as soon as he hits the key, the fuel pump will start pumping..........
