Default Bigger blower or add some spray?

I'm looking for a few opinions before I continue my build, as it might alter how I finish the motor. Currently building a 385, LE1 heads and cam, V1 blower. I'm at 5200ft and target goal is 500whp uncorrected. Will be used as a weekend cruiser and spirited driving, needs to be reliable. Might never see the strip, but I'm hoping to get there someday to see what it will do. Cost does play a role, as it dictates how long it will take to finish. It would be great to get it running good by the fall. A couple important specs on the build so far: 2 bolt with studs, forged crank, rods and pistons, 9.2-9.5 CR, spun to 6-6200k, spec 3+ clutch.

Currently I'm debating which direction I want to go, and if someone has been either route, please chime in. I think on the new motor/blower I should be around 420-440whp. I'd like to put a 50shot on it, and possibly work my way to 100 as I dial in the tune. However, since I won't be spraying all the time, I'll need 2 tunes to switch back and forth. I'm thinking I can get away with using stock computer and opti and LTCC. I can get a n2o kit for around 400 to suite this, will only need to fill the bottle when needed.

The other route is to ditch the current blower, and just get a ysi (1500-2k), then i'll need a FAST XFI for optimal tuning (another 2k), plus rerouting the IC plumbing ($). I like this route because i won't have to switch tunes and should make more power, but I don't trust keeping the 2bolt block. Also, the expense could keep the car down for years.

I'm not looking to make gobs of power, just stay reliable and make me smile when i punch the throttle. So which route would I be happier chasing?

Honestly dude, it should hit your goal with the current blower.

That is if you ditch that LE1 topend and put something worthy of the cubes on there...

dont worry about the NOS. get your car running first. that kind of power in a street car is more than enough in my opinion. you can always change pulleys later.

I wouldn't bother with nitrous yet...a methanol injection kit might be worth looking into, big power gains and cheaper/safer than nitrous.

Nitrous is the best intercooler you can get.

You all do realize that he said 500hp UNCORRECTED AT 5200ft. that is a lot more motor than a 500hp motor at sea level....

i agree with greg...........and as much as he and i both want to say SPRAY IT!!! i really dont think you will have to.......with the correction back down to normal DA's i figure you'll really need like 550-575rwhp which is totally in the realm from what you described.....i say follow ur current plan

Thanks for the input. As much as going with better heads could help the goal off the bottle, I'm not sure I have the budget for it. I can get LE1 heads and custom cam for $1200, built the way I want them. Bigger heads would obviously help, but the DA kills me up here, so I'd hate to drop 2k+ on heads alone and not hit the goal. Good news is no one said anything about the ysi, i'll ditch that idea. I'm already on the smallest pulley combo I can use without overspinning the blower bearings. I'm over looking the basics I think, should just get it running, break in the motor, then off to the dyno. I could always put the bottle on down the road if i really need to.
