best value is for date correct vett restoration--other than that---they are good choice but if you want to max power you'll be better off with angle bolt billet 4 bolt caps on a 2 bolt block

This was my point, that by the time you need the extra cap bolts you need to buy aftermarket caps which the block has to be machined for anyway.
This is completely aside from the straight vs. splayed argument, big power means aftermarket caps no matter which way the outer bolts run.
Then again with the cost of a build that warrants 4-bolt what is a couple hundred dollars anyway?

I should have quoted Jerry Clayton too as I think he has it right, leave them for the Vette guys.

You're absolutely correct. Personally though if I'm going to throw aftermarket caps in a block and aline hone anyway, I'd rather have the splayed caps and save a couple bucks for beer money while I'm waiting on the motor to come back from the machine shop.

And yes, save the untouched LT4 block for the vette guys doing a restoration or something.

Yep.

What's the stock shortblock record again?

9.44 at 140 something. Taking a big shot of nitrous. Pretty sure he is using a 2 bolt block.

LT1 and LT4 4-bolt Blocks are identical, just the part number, like mentioned.

There is, however, a difference in a LS1 and LS6 Block. The LS6 block has different webbing in it to vent PCV better, and other small suttle differences with the Oiling from what I have read.

same here obv im much less power than u but stock 4 bolt sudded with billet caps never ever had an issue nor do i forsee one lol

and just to add to that convert a 2 bolt thing there is actually quite a bit of work to be done......caps have to go in the bridgeport and be machine to fit the saddle correctly then it has to be line bored/honed.....so id does cost some money.......

tony i saw one sell on ebay for 700 a few months back.....seems like factory 4 bolts are becoming kinda hard to find....

I picked up a vette LT1 complete for $400. Had to sleeve the back cylinder when I turned it into a 396.
