Default Value of a stock LT4 block

What is a stock LT4 4-bolt block worth? Un-molested still factory bore.

reconditioned ones are selling on ebay for around $850. I honestly wouldn't pay that much but somebody probably would.

What is the difference between an LT4 block and a 4-bolt LT1 block?

It's my understanding that the major difference between an LT1 and LT4 in a vette was the heads and cam. The blocks were identical, now the casting number is whats gold, since inthe future someone wanting to make their grandsport all correct numbers etc.

basically they are compared like this: LT1 is to LT4 like LS1 is to LS6..... head and cam separates the power difference. Two generations of motors with great power for their time!

Hi Tony,

I've bought a couple in the past and from what I can remember there were in the 350 range.

Having a factory 4-bolt main will save you a decent chunk of change from converting a 2-bolt over to a 4-bolt. I would ask $600 or so.

Honestly, I'd rather have a 2-bolt that I can install splayed caps on over a 4-bolt.

I'm not saying a 4 bolt won't live up to it, I just prefer using the more available 2 bolt and splaying them.

I've never seen either break. Not saying it hasn't happened, just that I haven't seen it. Mine is a 4-bolt non splayed with Howards caps.

Me neither. However, I have seen cap-walk on a few motors though (never on a studded 4-bolt or splayed 2-bolt).

One of the reasons I've used 2-bolt splayed blocks over 4-bolt is, it usually comes out a little cheaper ($80-$100 2-bolt block + $120 splayed caps vs $200-$400 on a 4-bolt, either getting full machine prepped so the align hone cost is the same for both).

BTW joelster, iirc your sig used to have a best time of 11.0ish or something right? If so, I see it dropped to a 10.58, congrats!

Realistically I would say 300-500. I have sold a couple for $450. Just depends on if the demand is there when you want to sell it.
