Default Lt1 fuel pump question!

Ive got a 96 z28 and just replced the fuel pump with a granatelli 255 from Summit. I cut a hole with some nibblers I got from harbor freight for $10, I highly recommend, No Sparks! No dropping the tank! Anyway im leaking fuel out of the fuel tank vent valve(the little white plastic thing in front of the axle) Is this line to the vent connected to any hose in the tank? There is a picture here that states the pump is ready to go back in, but there is a line at the top thats not connected. Is this line supposed to stay dissconnected? If it is ive found my problem because I connected that line to the vent.

I can't make heads or tails of your photo.

These aren't the best photos I've taken either, but perhaps one of them will help?

Looks to me like the hose closest to the fuel level float coming out of the fuel pump bucket is left open.

I should probably mention my photos are from a 1994. I have trouble keeping track of what all GM changed over the years, so I can't say for certain whether the 1996 pump is identical.

I disconnected that hose so it looks the way the photos do. I think when the canister gets full it just spills the gas out that hose back into the tank. I started it and it seems to run fine and theres no leak. Thanks for the pics by the way.
