modding 97 WS6
hey how's it going I've been out of the LT1 game a while playing with them ls1s. But i just picked up a 97 trans am ws6 m6. Its mostly stock minus gutted cats and Borla catback. I've seen that these cars Dyno around 230-250 stock. My question is the car came with hooker long tube ceramic coated headers amd matching ory not yet installed, what kinda gains will I see with those and a pcmforless.com tune? Also I have a buddy with a 07 gt auto that I was thinking of racing he's stock for now but plans on shorty headers and a handheld tuner. I don't think I could take him from a dig as I'm not to good launching since ive had the car less than 6hr and had to parking cause I went out of state for some army training. Thanks guys

You'd beat the mustang as is, and if you add a tune and long tubes, and he adds shorties, you'll beat him even worse.
The long tubes will provide a great increase in power, between 20-30rwhp gain with a tune iirc. Im sure others will chime in with personal testimonials/more exact numbers

My 93 stock dynoed 281 HP 312 TQ on a dynojet and then I did 1-3/4 Dynatech LT's and SLP LM1 and put down 293 HP 323 TQ UNTUNED on the same dyno so I know if I get it tuned one of these days it will put down 300 for sure I think.

The 93s I have come accross seem to Dyno about 10 to 15 higher than the 94 up non ram air cars. My 97 WS6 all stock layed down 273/291 on a Dynojet, and ran a 13.9 @ 101 mph at the track.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to do what I mentioned and then I plan on lowering it on strano springs, with slp bilsten shocks, with the poly bushing kit. Then a mgw shifter with black hurst shift ball. Poly motor mounts and nitto nt05 round it out. Wife plans on buying then over then next 3months for me while in stuck guarding the boarder in Arizona.

I'm not calling anyone a liar or anything, but I find it very interesting to see these claims of 270 - 281 stock RWHP from an LT1 when those motors only made 275 - 285 HP at the crank in stock form. Ram Air and CAI induction doesn't show any HP increases when a car is on a dyno, BTW.

It is what it is. Most of the stock WS6 cars I've seen dynoed back in the day produced around 27x/30x-31x. Unless dynojets have changed how they measure power, that is what they were around.
FWIW, I was pulling a good 2-4mph on most non WS6/Firehawk cars. Stock for stock. Once modded, it narrows considerably.

I made several pulls both times and they were consistent with each other.

For reference, my old LT1 car ran a 13.024@103.33 with a 1.74 60 ft in ~2700DA.
It had 3.73's, CE rear drag shocks on street setting, worn 275/40/17 MT ET Street Radials, 3600 stall, Ebay LT's, ORY, and slp LM2 exhaust, untuned.
You should have no problem putting a few cars on your friend. I know I sure as hell didn't with all of the 3V GT's I ran into out here. Especially from a dig

While not as underrated as LS1 cars, lt1s are slightly underrated and all years are 290-300 flywheel.
This is how GM got away with jumping from 275, to 285, to 305 with basically identical motors from 93-97. No way in hell adding a second cat was worth 10hp...but it allowed them to show progression on paper while they stalled until the LS was ready.

My car put down 259h and 310t and i was running 13.5 @ 103 with many mods from 1.6 rockers TB mod and so on. But my 93 and all other 93 have just a little bigger lift cam than the rest stock. But i love the 93's so i may be biased.
