Default lt1 differences thru the years

does anyone know the differences of the LT1's over the years
Im mainly looking for external accessories info...like how the opti changes over the years, or all the sending units for gauge stuff

i gotta friend with a 93 TransAm, and his engine builder screwed him and gave him back a 95 LT1 motor. So we gotta figure out how to make everything on his car work with that motor.
It was just the longblock (shortblock, intake, heads, timingcover, etc) though, so we dont have to worry about making a MAF work on the speeddensity CPU

any links or info will be greatly appreciated
Jason

the intake manifold is different from a 93 to a 95, 93 doesnt have the fuel rail crossover in front like a 95 does. the timing cover is different too, 93 didnt have a vented opti spark, so if you have the 95 cover you could upgrade to the vented opti. how do you know for sure he gave you back the wrong engine?

And if he did give you the wrong engine, bitch and moan until you get the right one. You shouldn't have to go through all of this headache to correct HIS blunder.

93's fuel rail crossover is in the back of the rails, 94+ is in the front.

93-94 got the Non-vented opti. 95+ got the vented opti with the new timing cover, and the ability to run an aftermarket timing chain.

Most of it will work fine. To make that 95 motor work, all I think you'll need to do is either get a set of 94+ fuel rails or a 93 Intake manifold, and a vented opti spark and opti wiring and vaccuum harness. The electrical/sensor connections are all the same, so everything should hook right back together with exception to the opti wiring harness.

ok, sorry, but I was wrong about a couple things
He has a 95 shortblock with 95 heads, 93 intake (and all intake accesories), 95 timing cover and 95 Opti

So he basically only needs the opti wiring and vacuum harness's, right?
Im bidding on a vacuum line, on ebay right now. Is it "plug&play"? Will it route with the 93 chassis?
As for the wiring on the Opti, Im guessing it uses a different plug harness?
If so, how do we go about converting that to work?

As for the engine builder, if it was MY motor. The engine builder guy would be walking around with the worst case of **** bleeding ever, after I shove a crank pulley up his retarded ***. But that's just me.

To make the 95+ opti wiring harness work, you have to shave down the alignment tabs on the end that plug into the cars wiring harness. The pinouts are the same, the plug ends are the same shape, but the alignment tabs vary. THat's the only mod necessary on the wiring harness. You can just leave it be withouth securing it, as it's a snug fit, or you can use a zip tie to hold it on. Either way works.

As for the vacuum harness, you have to splice the end of it into a vacuum hose via a t-junction. The 95+ cars had a port on the side of the intake manifold for the vacuum feed, whereas the early ones you must tap a vacuum line. Most guys tap into the line that's at the middle of the driver side of the manifold. I can't remember right off hand where it goes.

Other than that, everything should bolt right up. If you're trying to re-use your cam and timing set from the 93, it won't work due to the dowel pin being too short. If you use the 95 timing cover and opti, you must use ALL 95+ equipment such as cam and timing chain.
