The "Valet Key" turn off opened up the second set of injectors. I believe turned on the motor was around 225 hp

If you want a LT-5 You are better off buying a ZR-1. You can pick a nice to decent one up in the low 20's And yes, they are very expensive to mod.

Although there is a machinist in Georgia that is starting to offer porting of the intake and heads at 1/2 the price of the big name tuners such as LPE and Rippie.

The strength of the LT-5 is durability and High RPM operation. A basically stock car went ***** out for 24hrs non-stop at an average of 175mph. Broke all speed endurance records. The motor was light years ahead of its time. Designed by LOTUS and GM Built by Mercury-Marine I believe.

Ive seen one in a 3rd Gen so it's possible.

If I had the money Id much rather have an LT5 than an LS6, the heads on it are capable of flowing nearly 400cfm when worked right(vs. 350-360cfm max for LS6 castings).

Check out this ZR1, It makes over 900hp and runs 8.60's NATURALLY ASPIRATED:

The LT5 was pretty pointless, if someone did make one fast they spent a LOT more than they would have with any other engine.

Arao Engineering is a joke just mentioning them might get this thread locked.

It wasnt pointless at all.

Anyone that pays premium money expects a premium motor, thats exactly what GM gave them.

You have to remember, at the time the TPI was as bad as it got for stock GM motors. Dont compare it to LSX as it wasnt even developed yet. They were still working on Gen II LTx motors I would think.

I have to think R&D on the LT5 cost more than they got back out of the program.
That pretty much makes it pointless

I have to disagree. Gm most likely learned a lot from the R&D that they did into the lt5. If it had gone well we most likely would have had a far different engine the the ls1. Since it didn't we do have the ls1 instead of an engine more like the lt5 or something like whats in the mustang.

This is just how companies do things sometimes. They take a gamble and see what happens sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't.

I wish I could get my hands on one, mainly for the high Rpm spins for road racing and track days. But secondly because I think they are one of GMs prettiest motors ever

I am wrong it cost $100 for the LT5 R&D and only $95 to build each one and the mods to the ZR-1 car only cost GM another $1.50 so they made a killing and that is why they stopped offering it. They made money money than they knew what do do with and I am SURE of that.

Calling the LT5 the best block that GM ever made is a bit of a stretch. But I will agree that it is the sexiest OHC motor ever.
