back in '04 I built an LE3 383 and the cam I got was a 242°/248° on a 108lsa specced by bret bauer. it wasnt on any modern lobe, if I recall correctly it was on comp magnum lobes, I have the comp lobe numbers on my computer but I dont feel like looking them up in the catalog. they were 3113/3170. the .006" duration was huge, 304°/315°. cam had 29° of valve overlap at .050". wouldnt idle below 1,000 rpm. my vacuum was around 6"-7" so the brakes worked like ****. I have a video clip but its very poor quality from 7-8 years ago.

http://youtu.be/1n4b7gTo_nE

that engine never ran right, couldnt ever figure it out.

later on I built a 350 with a 242/248 112lsa cam that was "too big, wouldnt idle, would want to rev too high" etc etc etc but was on modern lobes (3018/3377) with a bit more aggressive ramp rate than the ole LE3 383 cam I had. it idled at 1000 rpm happily, the brakes worked fine, it ran like a raped ape. put down 390 whp through touched up stock heads... then the basically stock bottom end grenaded before I ever got to run it at the track.

here is what that one sounded like:

LTs in to open Y-pipe
http://youtu.be/s7puQmREcBw

then with hooker catback
dyno: http://youtu.be/14bLVIZmq-k
burnout: http://youtu.be/qQdbms3CYVk

I miss that car

wouldn't idle below 1000? lol i have a 267/272 @ .050" on a 110 that idles at 950 RELIABLY at 4.5" of vacuum. 242/248 on a 110 will idle at 800-900 with 7-8" of vacuum in a 383. here's a 240/252 on a 107... only have a one at 1050 rpm, this was early in the tuning process. Spend time or money on a well sorted tune and it will drive without surge (well maybe not after cold start)

I have the same cam in my 383, LE2 heads. Car runs low 11's and drives very nice. Made just under 400 rwhp thru an auto and dana 60. Torque was 435.

Your times are great but what race weight and 60 ft? Under 400 seems low not sure how much the dana can take away . I see normally 430-460 with 383.

Fashooter I would be very happy with low 11's as that is my original goal. What Pistons are you running and who did your tune? I really want to get a Dyno tune but not sure of anyone in Texas that is reputable with LT1's. Any Ideas? I should have the car up and going by the end of the month also. As soon as I take it to the track I will post Track times good or bad. I know my 60ft is going to suffer with the M6 and stock 10bolt though.

Car weighs #3680 best 60ft 1.54. I was hoping for a bigger number for hp but it is what it is! I would think 460 would be a pretty big number for stalled auto? This was on a mustang dyno, Don't know if that made a difference and thru a full exhaust. Have went to stepped headers and added a cut out going back soon, to see what it does

I'm not really concerned with Dyno numbers. As long as it runs nice at the track. Low 11's is good for me.

well youre talking about a car with an engine that I built when I was 18-19 through 03-04. I was learning a lot, all it had was a mail order tune and no one in my area dyno tuned LT1s. many failures led to much knowledge as I figured out that mac headers didnt work on a 383 very well and TCI converters are garbage among other things.

later on I built a far more budget engine, which was too budget obviously when the basically stock bottom end grenaded, that had a 242/250 112 (my first post was a mistake its wasnt a 242/248) and idled fine at 1000 rpm in a 350, easily could have been dropped a bit. only had a mail order tune on it also, didnt last long enough to bring to a dyno to tune it. it actually drove better with 2.73s than 4.10s. it was like a damn powerglide with the 2.73s lol 1st gear went over 60, 2nd gear went to about 120 mph at 7k rpm.

I want to build one again

Here is a clip of mine before I sold it, cam is a little different 242/250 109LSA. It was a custom grind by Joe Overton.
