I would say no, and the weight difference between the two is like 4lbs, are you sure the DS is causing the vibration?

You can get an aluminum driveshaft that will handle the power, but the stock LS1 aluminum probably wont for long. I wouldnt run one at that power level anyway.

Make sure you have a driveshaft loop lol.

Sure it can. On the street with street tires it will be fine. You take it to the track with any kind of tire with good traction you will twist it good. Make doubly sure ot have a good DS loop.

It's a tradeoff. These cars were the most inexpensive for the power produced in their time. Factory built you could not find anything that matched the power for the same price. That's why they have cheap interior, crap drivetrain from the trans back (Borg Warner T56 is extremely durable for what it is).

yea man at like 75-80 with my 4.11s the car vibrates like crazy!!! It will be smooth with the clutch in at 80 mph, then will randomly start vibrating! I stopped keeping coins in my ash tray bc they almost bounce out of the freakin thing!

My car was doing the same thing.felt like the car was going to shake in half and the shifter would rattle like crazy! I put my buddies ls1 drive shaft on just to see if it would fix my problem and it did. The thing is smooth sailing now. I couldn't believe the difference, I didn't see where any weights or anything had flown off my lt1 drive shaft either. So for my car it was the driveshaft that was causing it. Maybe you have a buddy with an ls1 driveshaft you can steal for testing. They are easy to swap out...

Mine also depends on the throttle too..when i have the gas barely pressed cruising at 80 it vibrates, then when I press the gas a little harder it goes away..WTF

It started getting bad around 80. Mine would do it in 4th gear as well as the other gears if I remember right. Anything over 80 it would get worse and worse. It's worth a shot to throw your dads on there and see if it helps. You will know right away as its a night and day difference. Mine was almost kinda like a grumble vibration. I didn't think there was any way a ds would fix my problem but it sure did. Easiest fix I'd ever done lol.

glad you got it fixed..my trans mount took a crap and its got a poly mount now so maybe the DS came out of balance when that mount went bad.

If you have 600 rwhp you NEED something better than a stock driveshaft. Both the LT and LS ones are paper thin and people break them with stock HP and traction. Do a search for broken stock driveshafts, they are both about as thin as coke cans, and when a driveshaft goes, it can take ALOT with it including your floor, tailshaft to you trans, torque arm, and possibly rear end. Invest in something stronger.

A quick search just found this

I have a steel driveshaft that needs balancing I will sell for $100 plus shipping. It has a 1350 yoke and a real nice slide yoke. If you are interested, PM me and I'll post up pics.
Forgot to add, it's a 3" custom made. Not stock steel.
