Infared Temps
I have a 94 LT1 from a corvette in a 66 elcamino. This is my first pro tour build. I've been restoring for 6 years and purchased the motor 3 years ago stock motor with 160k that was pulled to install a LT4. I put new plugs, wires, coil, removed the egr and running heated o2 sensors, have a roadmaster fuel tank and pump. It started right up and I have had it running a dozen times over the last year but it will be another year before it is off the tire skates. To me it doesn't seem like the motor is running on all 8 cylinders and I would pull the plug wires off to see if it had a weak cylinder but with headers it is pretty much impossible. I brought a infared thermometer home from work and took some temps on the header at the cylinder head and found at idle #1-350F #3&5 -280F, #7-150, #2,4 260F, #6-200F, #8-250F. With #7 being so much lower I did a compression check and it was 160lbs. I am going to purchase a cable and download a scanning program this week to get more insite into what is going on. I don't want to throw parts at it. What do you thnk I will find?
