Default LT1 355 build questions

i am building a 355ci for my 1995 z28 here are the list of parts.

Probe .030 forged pistions with plasmolly rings

5.7 H-beam rods with arp L-19 upgraded rod bolts

3.48 forged egale crank

LE cam 224/230 .573/.568 112 LSA. – 1700-6100 RPM thats emissons legal since im in commieforina

Sealed Power performance Bearings

LT1 195cc Trick flow assembled Heads and gasket and bolt kit

stock intake that is port matched with heads

58mm throttle body

accel 30Lbs injectors

eletric water pump

SlP Headers with hi flow cats

Here are the questions:

i was wondering since im not running a stock water pump what is the best timing chain set with part number? i have a 1993 timing cover so i think i should be fine clearance wise.

How much does splaying main caps run on average? and last questions is about optispark. is it worth keeping it and retro fitting to LTCC set up
?

thanks everybody

well I thought the 5.7 Eagle H Beams were good enough with the ARP bolts they come with, but for $100 to upgrade the rod bolts to apr L-19 it would be cheap insurance.

L19 rod bolts don't do well to moisture. With the condensation problems with our cars i don't think the L19 bolt is a suitable choice.

any good single roller for a SBC should be fine for a timing chain... At least i think so...
Double roller might make you clearance the cover... maybe..

yeah they would be just fine....

In all of the 8000 rpm dirt track motors that my machinist builds, he uses the 8740's never had a problem with them...

If you are keeping the opti and driving it thru a '93 cover your options are limited on cam gears. The opti is spline driven by the cam gear on a '93. I don't know if there is any aftermarket options at all. For the power level you have described, keeping the opti will be fine.

Was your stock crank bad? Just curious about the stock stroke forged crank purchase. A good stock crank and the ARP 8740 rod bolts would be fine at the described power level also.

I would ditch the Eagle junk...

and why the Trickflow 195cc heads? They are large chamber, which is going to make it tougher to get SCR up...

Looks ok other wise.

Like said already. U are limited to stock timing set with the nonvented optis. Convert to a vented and run a double roller while u got it appart. The arp rods bolts should be plenty for ur setup. Instead of the 195 trickflows look into the 185s. There 54cc heads and will keep ur compression up. The le and ai ported stockers are great to.

I believe Lunati has a 92-93 timing chain.

If buying a crank why buy stock stroke?

If buying rods why buy 5.7?

If doing such a mild build why spend the extra on the L-19 bolts?

If you have the stock crank I would reuse it and get a 6.0" forged rod Scat or Eagle with the regular ARP hardware, pick an appropriate piston. Just saved $600 that you could put into making more power with head porting.

If you really want an aftermarket head I would consider the Trickflow 21degree WITH PORTING, the small chamber will help with compression. If that is too much money then have the stock heads ported, I would think this would be easier come inspection time too.

Leave the ltcc alone just save your money until you have the cash for the 24x conversion if the opti is that big of a deal to you.

Do you have any pictures of the 24x set up on your car? How do you like it so far? Was the install easy?
