Default Whats it take to beat 5th gens?

I got a hot shot friend with a 5th gen ss and i want to put a different cam in this summer... what would it take to make him see tail lights at the track? he has exhaust and chip with plans to do full bolt-ons.

I plan to get a 3600rpm stall and 3.73's with the cam

Definately the torque convertor and tranny cooler. Sticky wheels, LCAs with relocation brackets, long tubes, 1.6 rockers, and bigger cam. If you really want to smoke him, get the heads ported, then youll have more cam options too.

Ive heard 5th gens respond well to mods too, so practice your launch as much as possible and you shouldnt have a problem beating him.

With gears and converter you'll put him away. Tack on a 100 wet shot and a set of sticky tires and you'll make a statement that he'll not soon forget.

I was at the drive thru at McDonalds one night with a younger guy driving a Black on black SS ahead of me taching it up, trying to punk me. After he got his food he waited for me and rolled out just in time for a red light. I would imagine seconds after he got home, he was on the net make a list of mods to go faster and wondering how a raggedy *** C4 busted his ***.

Fastest on in person went high 12 bone stock. For that all you need is a healthy car and a few bolt ons.

I think thats all they're good for. The lt1 will have a better chance from a dig.

I've beaten them with bolt ons. 1.6RR's, long tubes, full exhaust, CAI, tune, and some other odds and ends. M6 with stock 3.42's.

Bolt ons, converther, tires and a tune. I've seen a local 5th gen car go mid 13's with several bolt on's, gears, converter and a tuning.

alright so the general consensus is gears stall and good tires... anyone got a recommendation on tires? i still have the stock rims. P.s. the 5th gen is a manual trans and he cant seem to launch it good

Had a buddy with a fox body mustang that put his nitrous bottles inside a gym bag and bolted them down inside the trunk. If you opened the trunk all you saw was a cheap gym bag that any guy would have in his trunk, nobody thought twice to open it and check for nitrous.

Full free flowing exhaust, 3.73s behind a m6, cai, nittos, and some weight reduction has me running right beside some of the automatics. A set of headers and a tune and I do believe they will be seeing my rear z28 logo. I have a very healthy LT1. Makes it a little easier since its not dogged out like the vast majority of LT1 cars.
