Default Summit Racing Oil Pan

Hey Guys,

I am trying to decide on a oil pan for my 383 build. Spending 300+ for some extra capacity and a scraper/baffle doesnt really excite me, so I looked into using a typical sbc passenger dipstick oil pan as some have suggested. This pan has a 6qt capacity, a crank scraper, and a trap door:

Seems really comparable to the Moroso 20185, with the exception of loosing the low oil sensor. But Ive been 1 qt low without that sensor telling me, so I am not exactly too keen to keep it.

Downsides?

Thanks,
Kyle

I used that pan in a friends gen 1 SBC 383 build. We got the kit with the oil pump, gasket, pump driveshaft, etc. Its a really nice pan and was even stamped made in the usa!

It was used in a 68 camaro and hung just a little lower than the stock on. That would be my only concern with your 4th gen.

I went ahead and ordered the summit oil pan. $20 off. I will post on this thread after I compare it to the stock pan.

It looked similar to the hamburger oil pan in terms of construction. Also, with a 1qt oil filter you have 7 total qts of oil, which seems like plenty for the average aggressive street engine.

Will report back when I get it.

I don't see that fitting with the stock k-member/steering rack.

Could shim the mounts to get some clearance.

if the OP does raise motor with shims than DL angle is effected. May also need shim between tranny and X member also.

or...just use the stock pan and windage tray. use 1/8" washers between studs & windage tray to clear rods. Put pan on and rotate engine while listening for any clearance issues. I had to push out the pan under #2 rod.
