I would look at the pistons, if they have the -18cc dish then I would redo the shortblock immediately, if they are -12 cc or less I would do the supporting stuff and save up for a better rotating assembly,
Even if the Eagle kit has a cast crank, you can stick a set of heads and a nice cam on the thing and have some fun while saving for the final motor, all is not lost.

The funny thing about half of those cast rotating kits that eagle sells is that the big dish pistons are usually forged too. You might be able to tear it down and sell the rotating internals as parts.
