Default Gears?

Ok with my mods to be. How low until my milage takes the hit? Just some ideas. I've been lookin at 3.73. Could I go lower or would that be a safe cutoff? This is my daily driver and highway. Thanks

Manual or Automatic?

4.10s in a Manual usually sees a couple hundred RPM increase.

Select your car from the menu and play with the rear gear ratio. I notice these cars get good gas mileage running under 2000rpm on the freeway over and you'll guzzle gas.

Your mileage will take a hit no matter what gear you choose... the question is how much of a hit can you handle.

Well heres your problem. You're driving a V8. My Cruze gets 40mpg. My Saturn I had got 38mpg. So I drive economical and slow during the week then the weekend I stomp on it.

Gears don't hurt mileage all that much.

People mistake the lower mileage at higher speeds for an rpm induced problem when it is more an aerodynamic problem.

Most guys like 3.73s with an automatic, with the double overdrive of the M6 4.10s are a good choice.

Most of the loss in MPG is attributed to "lead-foot-new-gears" syndrome.

I've got 4.10 gears with an m6. If I keep it under 2500 rpms, then the car gets great gas mileage. It's about how you drive it. I keep the cruise control on, and still have enough torque to get up mountains or pass on the interstate. I use about 1.5 tanks or less on a 500 mile drive from KY to SC.

In the b-bodies most came with 2.93 or 3.08 and 27-28" tires, many people see city mileage gains with 3.42s with no highway loss.

Lugging a motor works for flawed EPA mileage testing but in the real world hurts mileage.
