Just remember most people that do a cam/heads upgrade on a high milage motor Spin a bearing or 2 SO if you do all the work yourself you can upgrade to ARP rod bolts & new bearings if all is nice & clean when you start that & put a Z28 oil pump & steal oil pump shaft in too On the heads attention to detail is needed Some rollocks to clean all the mating surfaces helps the procedure Just make sure to stuff rags everywhere & CLEAN the **** out of the cyl walls & piston tops to make sure NO metal shavings get in there Adjusting the valves isnt hard Get the LT1 manual before you start & read it 3 times Then proceed

Spinning a bearing after a cam install has absolutely nothing to do with how much "wear" the bearing has. It has to do with a sloppy/reckless/hurried/unclean install.

ITs a 15 hr job all day long. Atleast if you go by All data or what most shops and dealers use. So with that said and your paying $90 a hr on average. x that by 15hrs you will get $1350
thats minus all the parts included in the swap.

Now throw a cam in the mix and you are paying for another 2 hrs minimum on that.

SO now your at $1530 and thats only in labor.

you will easily spend over 2k in just the parts and labor if at a shop, but I do these jobs at home with far less overhead. Therefore its a lot less for the client.

What does that shop charge? They lost $$$ IMO considering the cam swap alone calls for 15hrs.
HEad gaskets call for 13 hrs.

So with that being said they shoulda spent about 1600 min in just labor for the job. Then the rest of the **** woulda been more

Changing rodbolts requires having the rods resized by a machine shop.

Exactly why would he want to change to a "z28 oil pump", and why would he want to "steAl" an oil pump driveshaft, a steEl sleeved shaft is reasonable though, the Melling was $8 last I looked, the stock plastic rarely causes any hassles but at $8 to upgrade to a piece that make the engine easier to work with why not.

And nope thats my shop i own it. I can do a cam swap on a LS motor in 3 hr start to finish with it running. Anyone that pulls the heads is crazy... Use the actually tool for keeping the lifters up and boom all done.

Heads are no big deal. Problem is most people overcharge. And the fact that I have know the car for 10 years... We go way back.

Im doing springs on a GTO Now for 300.00 I mean really it will take me all of 2 hrs.

And loose money... No way. Took me all of a day to do it.... I will take 1000 a days work all day every day.

Let us just be completely clear here too that a novice tackling it for the first time should plan on a LOT more time. Awesome if you get it done faster but do not plan on it.

DO you work out of your home or a real business location with overhead?

Any shop out here in Chicagoland area will charge about 550 just for the rear gear install.
Brakes with lines about 250-300 installed
cam and heads about 6-900 installed

so your not that far off.

I wasnt say that the heads needed to be pulled. Just bringing out numbers so everyone can see what the job actually calls for.

Is your internets broke?
If I had to guess I'd say most sponsors on this site would have it as well as just searching for 'LS1 lifter tool' on your favorite search engine.
