Default Oil Pressure Sensor

My friend had somebody put a head gasket on his car recently andvin the process damaged the radiator which is now fixed,broke the coolant bypass tube(fixed now),and this mechanics most recent break was the oil pressure sensor. This mechanic has had his car since February and my friend is growing impatient on this mechanic and is ready to get his car back now. Is This an easy fix or should he wait it out another week and let the mechanic fix it? It's a 94 lt1 trans am

It only takes a matter of minutes to change the oil pressure sensor.

Yep run down to the parts store go back home take the old one out and put the new one in. I broke mine too when I was taking the heads off.

I broke mine too when pulling the t56. I had to buy a $10 socket to change it to.

What kind of socket do you need for that? Ever since my new motor was installed it's pegged the oil pressure at over 80 psi no matter what...it's not though after putting a mechanical gauge on it. I'm assuming that sensor got broken during the motor swap or wires disconnected. This may be my weekend project...

To the OP that is an absurd amount of time for a headgasket change and amazed he broke that much stuff fixing it. Unacceptable in my opinion and why I do my own work. Thats a weekends worth of work and Im no mechanic.

Its an oil sending unit socket, 10 bucks at oreilley, its in the specialty tools not the actual socket section. I just asked and they showed me, if your pressure is pegged either way on the gauge its probably the sensor.

To Jrob56, yes and he said everything its back together he just needs to install the oil pressure sensor,intake,and "wire it up" it should be ready by Monday......imo that's way to long for that little bit of work.....but its not my car so I can't say anything.....thanks for everyone's input

if you unplug the Oil Pressure Sensor in an LT1 the gauge pegs itself to over 80.. I did this today tryin to change the sensor on my buddys 97 z28...


Contrary to popular belief the two oil pressure sensor sockets they sell at advance DO NOT FIT

and the EGR is directly in the way to get a box wrench on it....fail
