Lt1 4l60e hybrid help
Lt1 4l60e hybrid help hey guys looking for some help here - i am in the process of rebuilding my 4l60e out of my 96 z28 - i have new cluthes installed, housing , pump etc etc. my kicker is that i installed a imput shaft from a 4l65e gm p/n 17803686 and 24241477 - a friend of mine did this to his veh and was built by Frank Cahall at CPT - they used a custom built torque converter fromt precision industries - called them - told them what i built - they said no problem - well then they sent me my 850.00 converter - went to install and my torque converter hub shaft was 2.5 inches - i could get it to lock 2 times - but could not get the third click - called them back with measurement from my shop forman and come to find out they built the torque converter with to long of a hub shaft - now im being told they cannot build me a coverter for this what i have created ???? a friend of mine has this exact same set up and ordered it from prescision ind. as well - they pulled up his invoice and are telling me his has a stock lt1 imput shaft - i dont see how this is possible since his is a 600hp 383 stroker??? looking for help , thoughts, ideas

People like to blindly assume everything in the 4L65E is an upgrade and go chasing "upgrades" they don't need or ones that are a lot more hassle than they are worth.
For $80 you could have gotten a sleeve kit for the stock input. My tranny guy suggested I put a sleeved input in mine when it began getting quick like 6 years ago. Still running mid 11s at 4200lbs on an unmodified input cutting 1.5 short times, the short times where what worried my tranny guy the most. Tranny is over 8 years old and built for a MUCH milder setup.
I have stock servos, stock planetaries, some stock clutches. This tranny needs clearances set right, NOT a lot of "upgraded" parts.
Some of the GM upgrades are actually upgrades to their bottom line by using cheaper powdered metal parts where the 4L60E had forged like the planetary gears. The "upgrade" is actually rated to less rpm than the 4-pinion which almost nobody breaks anyway, very popular "upgrade" though.

ok ..... that really didnt help my cause sir . but thanks for your imput ... well on my factory 4l60e the planetary and housing , were purple and shot to hell when i dissasseblemed it .. my issue is how can a company make a torque converter for someone else with the exact same set up i created and now cant make one for me .. i have cross referenced our part #'s and everything matches .. ???
