Cam choice is very important. You could have heads that flow 300cfm but to small of a cam and the cam with choke the heads.
Reversal, cam that will use all the potential cfm and the heads can't flow enough (cam to big for the head) and the heads will choke the cam.
You will have to get a tune after doing head work and cam work.
TunerCats will not tune a diesel. Its only for GMs gas engines for OBD1.

Yes, not worth the money.
You will see way more gains from a mail order tune, which is like 100 - 150 bucks.
TunerCats with Datamaster and the Cables for OBD1/OBD2 hookup is 300 bucks. You can tune and data log unlimited cars.

were in the same boat pretty much lol, i just bought a 94 z28 a few months ago and im looking into doing pretty much the same thing you are. accept mine will be more of a weekend warrior at the strip not so much street, accept to get ice cream from dairy queen on the weekends

Yes a top end kit is well worth the money if you contact a.i. or l.e. they will set you up
I highly recommend going to the track gas and price of entry cost way less than a ticket pluss you will get hard numbers for the car as well

With a good tune no I don't think so keep in mind you are making an engine run more efficiently if you can keep you foot out of it you may even gain mpg but I would say it would stay about the same
