Default What timing chain set???

Want to know what timing chain set people are running, I am going to get a cam soon and looking to find some parts like a timing chain set, just one problem is I dont want to spend 200-400 on a timing chain set. I was hoping to spend about $100-120 on a timing chain set (sucks with a budget)... Thanks guys I appreciate it.

you can run a cloyes true roller for a factory roller motor if you run an electric water pump. Just be sure you get a good electric pump to keep it cool Im gonna run a Hex-adjust on my 396 LTx Im buildin

You can't run a double roller timing chain with an unvented optispark (assuming the OP hasn't upgraded to a vented opti). He'll also need a 95+ timing cover among other things.

OP - if you have a vented opti go with the Cloyes 3145 with an EWP. No need for anything adjustable.

People love to hate the stock chain but it handles the substantial additional load of the waterpump just fine, if you remove that load you just created even more safety margin.
A Cloyes S505 lower gear can tighten it up some.

Far as aftermarket for a unvented I think Lunati has one that accomodates the waterpump.

so I can just run the stock chain which is like $100? I don't want an electric water pump for a DD.

I did a Cloyes double roller (3145 IIRC) because I already had the EWP and the 97 timing cover. If I did it again It probably just go to Napa and get a factory replacement.

If you go double roller, check the Timing cover for clearance, a while back a guy lost a motor because the chain was hitting the cover and dropping aluminum chuks into his oil.

It looks like a very strong chain, and its a single roller so you can use stock WP if you need.

I ran the stock chain in my old Formula. Never had any issues and I flogged the crap out of the car on the street and at the track. The stock chain is more than adequate for most builds and is plenty strong. I ran an EWP and still kept the stock chain.

ZZ4 will not work with stock water pump,has no drive gear.
