95 z28 died while driving i was driving my 95 z28 it has the lt1 350 and it just died while driving there were no loud noises before the engine stopped and it will not start it cranks but wont run. The check engine light came on shortly before this happened. what could the problem be? what should i start with to diagnose it?
Get a scantool and see what code was set. Then check back with us.
Getting a little ahead here but heres how to check the fuel system. Turn the key on and see if you can hear the fuel pump prine in the tank. If so get a fuel pressure gauge and attach it to the valve at the back of the intake on the fuel rail. Check for fuel pressure, if it's around 40psi and holds when the key is turned on then check for spark.
First see if there's spark at the coil by holding the coil wire near the coil post (with non-conductive pilers) while someone cranks the engine. You'll see the spark arc to the coil wire when cranking.
There's so many other possible things, just check the codes first and tell us what DTC has been set. Any parts store can let you use a scantool if you don't have one. Also some details on your car and any modifications will help.

my car is all stock no mods and i can hear the fuel pump when i turn the key to on. i got a scanner but it wont read any thing unless the car is running. i also checked for spark and it appears that i am not getting any where do i go from there?
if theres no spark , and your getting fuel opti crapped out most likely ,you could check the wires that conect to it from tge wire harness make sure its plugged in or no corrsion
Go to shbox's site and look up the process for checking to see if signal to fire is getting to the coil. The opti is a two part piece in the ignition system. You need to see what part is failing.
You should be able to read the codes without the car running. Just turn the key on and scan it.
