Make sure the top gear solenoid purge port located in the pan rail isn't covered by the gasket. Some aftermarket aluminum pans will also cover this port and need to be ground.
It doesn't work so well on these transmissions as the OP has found out.
I knew a "mechanic" who used floor tile adhesive on transmission pan and differential cover gaskets. They never leaked but you'd need a freekin jackhammer to get them off.
Go with the Tuff-Cork stuff guys.
