Default newby need help w lt1 build

ok so i was reading up on here about what to do to my 94 z28 and from the posts ive read and videos i ve seen i had determined to just put a 5.3 in it and hook turbo up, but i asked my cousin about it and he said would be big trouble getting it to run with pcm etc. he said to keep my lt1 build it and hook my turbo up, he also says that performance parts would not really be needed just to build the motor with durability parts so it would hold up that my turbo would be the performance parts, so my question is... what exactly do i need to put in it with being on a budget? i ve got a t3/t4 kit had nitrous kit but now im trying to get rid of it. also anyone that has parts i need or could use let me know i would like to buy my stuff from here instead of jegs or somewhere alot more expensive. thanks a bunch to the guys that reply. ive read alot alot of stuff on here and sounds like most is very knowledgeable. ps. my cousin is pretty high up in advanced auto stores and has 800+cobra in case someone is like wtf or something from how the top of post looks but he is like beating info out of so.......well, im here. THANKS.

i would ditch the lt1 and go 5.3 with a stand alone harness. simple and way more better than the lt1. it has coil on plug, obd2, easier tuning, diagnostics, handle more hp then the lt1 ( stock to stock). hands down way better and the resell will be better too.

If I had to do it all over again I would do 5.3 or 6.0. The 5.3 was tested to handle 1200-1300hp turbo'd stock with nothing done to it. 6.0 is good for 600hp but have to change out the stock pistons are the weak link is what I have read.

Like said above get stand alone ecm........and boost the bitch.....

For the same amount of money to build a LT1 you can do a 6.0 to the hilt. And take a junk yard 5.3 and have more fun and not worry about it when it blows.....take it out another 500 bucks and do it all over again

P.S. Your cousin better stay in the car audio world.... j/k

i think they regaped the rings and put a new intake on the 5.3 to handle the hp. but still. and if you do decide to go any ls engine. there is unlimited parts on here for alot cheaper than any where else. like intakes, hot pipes. ect

What are your goals for the car?

The LT1 is capable of more than most people want to believe and an LS swap will nickle and dime you FAR more than most people want to admit.

Im just wanting the cheapest route i can go obviously. I don't expect to have the fastest car by no means just around 600 hp ish. I think im gonna keep my lt1 since i already have one instead of buying somethin else. I already have a turbo kit also. MY NEW QUESTION WOULD BE WHAT DO I need TO PUT IN THE LT1 TO HANDLE 600 ISH HP? WITH MY TURBO

Also to MAKE 600 hp not just handle it. I look for my turbo to put me only around the 500LT1 ish range.
