Default How do I put this back togeather?

Some how while lowering the k-member this junction came apart. Ive lowered the k-member a million times and this has never happened. I tried to force it back in to no avail. I'm thinking Im going to have to apply heat to the female end to get the male end to fit? Any suggestions to how to get these pieces back together?

It only goes in one way!!! And their should be a buffer spring on one of the FLATS. See if you can figure out how it was clocked install the spring and push it together and or lightly tap it together. Also make sure you disconnect it from the rack and steering sector and fix it on the bench. This way you can see it better than when it is in the car. I separate them all the time. DO NOT HEAT IT. That is a NO NO !!!

Also lock the steering wheel. If someone spins it the CLOCK spring can be damaged. And that is NOT GOOD!!

I see it only goes on one way. What do I have to do once I find this spring?

The spring is a buffer to control shaft KNOCK. It has nothing to do with safety. It is a flat thin shim spring. Normally all cars use it. I am sure yours has one not 100%. I have found a hand full of them that dont have them but very very few. Just saying!!

Thank you. I'll do some research and see if our cars came with one.

Make sure the wheels are straight and the steering wheel is in the right position before you put it back together.

The wheel is in the locked position and the wheels are straight. Im assuming that our cars came with a shim so I guess I need to get this shim and then I'll be able to connect the junction?

If youll look at the bolted junction in the shaft there is a good inch of slip you can use from there. The key will unlock the wheel.
