Stock DD 2 get cam help Hey, so I have been looking at cams, I am trying to budget this through ones in the marketplace here, I have been thinking about hotcam, but I want a bit more i think, but not quite cc503, this is DD spring an summer with permitting weather. I know I need 1.6rr, pushrod,guideplates, springs.
So my question what cam do you guys recommend and what size stall, if I were to go with hotcam do you need to change the tq converter?

I have the cc502 which is very similar to the hotcam but has just a little more mid range to it i believe. You will need gaskets, springs, rockers, possibly push rods, as well as timing chain set I am probably missing something.
I went with a stock converter for a while after the cam and at lights it was hard to hold the car back it just wanted to break through the brakes. I have a 3600 vig that i bought because i got a good deal. I feel that a 3200 would probably have been perfect for this cam though.

Any aftermarket cam you could buy will benefit from a stall hell even the stock cam needs one! If you are wanting a cam that pulls hard and is barely detected. It has a very slight chop at idle, you need an LPE 211/219 this cam is highly underestimated by many........
If that is not enough next up would be the 503 this cam is super universal pulls hard, has a great sound and won't kill fuel mileage.......

I do not and I dont have the capability of it either. the cam has a very mild sound to it so it is noticeable at idle but not obnoxiously. I get a lot of compliments on how the car sounds with this cam and the magnaflow. I calculate every tank of gas in the car to and I average 14 mpg in the city and on a road trip i just took i did 23mpg on the high way with my set up. Again my car is a A4 with cc502, 3600 vig, 3.42 gears.
I have a hotcam and really like it. I picked up 6.5 mph with just the cam change, using lt4 valve springs with stock 1.5 stamped rockers. Here's a link to a discussion of 503 vs hotcam:

I've had many cams that i DD with over the years, CC305, CC306 this thing was a beast with my set up, LT4 hot cam kit, L.E. custom grind big bitch lol.
I know alot of guys hate on the CC306 but with the set up i had she ran strong as hell, even gregrob gave it props in my car and he hates that cam with a passion, But if i had to to do it all over again i would have done a custom grind first. I've personally seen gregrobs car with his old cam that he speced along with another one he did and they were suttle cams that ran hard *** hell.
I would send him a PM and see if he would be willing to help you man, you wont regret it one bit.

I was interested in hotcam b.c I know there are a few on the market and could be picked up cheap. I dont know the route I am going to go with yet engine wise heads/cam or ls route one day, but until then would like to get more power. Custom grinds are usually specific to the setup and I feel finding a used off shelf cam or hot cam would be easier to find. Like I said it sounds like every1 always wants to upgrade after hotcam so, I would like a bit more. I will look into ones suggest, do I need to up the injectors?
