Default Anyone else's seats slowly killing you?

Well I've had my car (94 Z28) for about 7 years now and I think its safe to say my 18 year old cloth seats are the root cause of my consistent back pain. After any more than a 20 minute ride I am left in what I would call severe back pain. I'm about 6'2" 200 lbs. It's all from lack of lumbar I believe.

Does anyone else have this problem or am I a delicate flower? I want to look into alternative seats but I have no idea what to look for. Corvette seats are too pricey, along with almost all other seats out of newer cars ( I've considered S2000, Civic Si , GTO, Rsx...anything). I'm just wondering what you guys are doing or have done? Can the stock seats be restuffed? I feel like Joe from Family Guy...

hahaha Joe from Family Guy..

Well, for starters, the F-Body seats in general have never been very comfortable. I had a 94 back in high school and currently finished my 97 Z28 project.

I will say, that I had the OEM seats redone and they put new foam in there and it made a big difference on comfort. Took a 1hr drive (30min one way and 30min back home). It wasn't as comfy as my Tahoe (of course) but it wasnt as bad as it was before I had my seats redone.

Youre a delicate flower. The seats 6LITEREATER sells on here bolt right in with the brackets he sells and are comfortable

I used to get a little bit of back pain on long trips and yes, the seats are notorious for no lumbar support. Part of being able to sell a car with the kind of power it had back in the day for less than 20K.

On the b-body side of things Bonneville seats from the 90s are popular. Require adapters to fit but a HUGE upgrade in support. I have put what they call 12-ways from the SSEI cars in a couple of my cars and they are pretty nice. Multiple lumbar bladders, side bolters etc.

Not sure how bad they would be to get bolted into an f-body but worth a look.

I think my car is (was) the most comfortable long distance car I have ever driven. The seating position is perfect, seats have great support, mine are the velour cloth 94 seats and I love them...

Yeah don't get me wrong, I loved taking road trips in the Camaro. Had fantastic room to stretch the legs. I do feel sorry for those who have to deal with the lovely leftover 3rd gen hump on the passenger side.

Camaro's got shafted when it comes to 4th gen seats....the leather seats in my Firehawk and Formula have great lumbar support....they are actually very comfortable for long trips because you can adjust how much lumbar support you want with the airbags in the lower back and sides of the seats. The little air pump and inflatable lumbar/side support bags still work great. I bought a set in VERY nice condition to replace the cracked leather seats on the Formula for $400; might want to consider some TA/Firebird leather seats as an upgrade

I am as tall as you and find f-body seats to be the most comfortable of anything I've actually driven. I don't like seats out of new cars, they are too stiff...

Hell to the yeah... I actually used to get (mild) back pain driving my 93 tbird power seats and all..... I love sitting low on the ground in my camaro with my legs forward (instead of down like in a truck or even most cars), great support. And I have leather seats.

I'd actually swap out my firebird's leather seats for some camaro leather seats. Anyone around Milwaukee/Chicago want to trade? :p

My cloth camaro seats lost all of their support. My right shoulder would get pinched by the metal frame support. It started to make the car undriveable. I stuffed a little foam in there and it was ok but I eventually bought some pontiac seats with lumbar controls. Man, they are awesome.

Yeah I'm going to have to do something. I don't even want to drive it as of now. I might look for Pontiac seats just because of the bolt in ability.

I think for anyone over 6' they are very comfortable. I have very long legs and its nice to stretch out and my knee never touches the center console like on most cars. Also the steering wheel is far enough toward the driver that you can keep a nice relaxed position in the seat and not be sitting too far upright, a little bit of a gangsta lean.

I discovered something interesting when I bought a '93 Grand Am not too long ago. The seats are charcoal grey and are the same exact pattern and style as the ones in my Formula. The only besides the obvious different mounting points was that the foam that was used is a lot softer and 20x more comfortable. Infact I could almost fall asleep in them.

So i'm honestly thinking about finding another set from another Grand Am (Has to be a GT or a highly optioned SE it seems like otherwise the seats aren't as similar) and switching out the seats onto my brackets.

Just something I thougth was interesting.

I never thought the seats in my car were "cushy" but the seating position is excellent. I'm 6'2" 250lbs and I've found the Camaro is the only car I DON'T get uncomfortable back strain from driving. My ex-gf's Mitsubishi Outlander was TERRIBLE. I think American cars have much more generous seat bottoms for bigger people, most Asian cars have smaller seat bottoms and less room to move the legs. I think the biggest deal with comfort is leg room, not just to stretch your legs lengthwise, but being able to move your knees around and spread your legs so to speak. How intrusive the center console and door panels are directly relate to this.

The seats in my 95 Z28 need to be redone but are comfortable even for a long drive.

x3 or x4 for Firebird seats leather...the lumbar support is amazing. And tuneable to however you want it.

but yea otherwise there is a little bit of delicate-ness detected. whats next a cig lighter massager?
