Default Silver oil

Ok...i just put a 97 motor in my 93, with ported heads and 503 yada yada. The motor has 52k on the clock. Been sitting for 6 yrs. So i put it in, got 100-200 miles on it since. Went to the track and made 8 runs in 6hrs, high 12, low 13's. So today i check the oil to kinda see the state of the bottom end. Oil has a good silver twinge to it. I have always thought that this is a sign of bearing wear, correct? Or is this something to be concerned with? Or dont worry about it till u see copper? What are your guys thoughts. Thanks

Likely still a bad sign. If you had gold flake, take it to the bank your fukd. Being it is silver, your possibly still fukd and in the worst case, the motor is coming out soon.

Monitor the oil pressure and keep an ear out for knocking and hope for the best.

I would drain it and cut open the filter before I even turned it over again. Inspect the drain oil especially the first bit that comes out as metal will likely settle low in the pan.

Hopefully it is just a little crude from a dry start and inspection turns up nothing else suspicious.

I hoped it was just the hard racing. Oil pressure is still holding 60 on cold start and about 50 on highway and 40 on hot idle. So i will change oil and cut open filter. What would u expect to find in a motor that was on it's out?

Lots of metallic particles are the bad sign. Most people see gold flake when the bearings let go. If the particles are indeed silver, you might want to inspect you oil pump drive gear on the stub.

Your pressure seems reasonable except for 40 on hot idle which is very high IMO. I have 20-22 on mine with 5W30 oil.

What weight oil are you running?

Royal purple 20/50. In gear hot idle is 20-25.

I would send an oil sample out ASAP! Don't remember the name of the company that does the analysis. I'm sure someone will chime in on who it is.

There are a LOT of companies that can do a UOA most areas have one locally as this is very commonly done in diesel applications.

You are probably thinking of Blackstone Labs though as they are a favorite on BITOG

So did you go through the engine before fireing it in your car. 6 years is a long time to let an engine sit and assume it's still good to go.

silver is worth quite a bit...pawn it?

Best of luck man.

Im guessing the RP 20/50 came from it being the only **** on the shelf besides 30weight lol. Thats why I used Vr-1 to throw in mine befor racing, 5/30 was actually in stock. I just do the 1 quart mixed with mobil clean 5000.

sitting for 6 years, it could just be moisture getting mixed in with the oil.
