Flywheel: SBC vs LT1

Okay guys i need some help from people who have experience with both motors.
I'm going to be swapping a gen 1 SBC into my camaro. I know that RAM makes a conversion flywheel but whats the difference between a gen 1 block and an lt1 block?
From all the specs they seem to be the same. As far as i can see the dimensions are the same on both so im a little confused as to why i need to spend 400.00+ on a flywheel to convert my LT1 t56 to work. is there something im missing?
Anyone dont this swap? Or know why i need to use the ram conversion flywheel?

The differences are that a gen1 sbc crank has a different bolt pattern for the flywheel than the 86-up which has the 1 pc rear seal crank. Also if you took a 2pc rear seal flywheel and sit it next to one fot the LT1/t56 the LT1 flywheel is thicker plus 2pc rear seal cranks are usually "internally balanced" whereas the 1pc cranks all come "externally balanced at the flywheel. So that's why you need a specific flywheel for your application. And $400 is about the going rate for most billet steel flywheels, hope this helps you.
