As you can see here from the pic the dipstick tube is blocking access but even if I remove it I don't think I'll be able to squeeze my hands in there. I need to get in there to reduce the plug gaps on #6 & 8. IIRC I put the plugs in before the headers. Thoughts?

 

With my Hookers, which I believer are the same, I take one bolt out of the starter then loosen the other, swing the starter out enough to get to it from underneath. It's even easier if you remove the starter.

 

#6 is accessed through the gap in the primaries...Ratchet, extension, norm spark plug socket...#8 shorty socket and a wrench....or drop the starter and do it from the bottom.

if you havent all ready, make you a short spark plug socket...take a normal one...cut the end off to where it will still have enough left to grab the plug...then drill the drive attachment out so the plug can stick up through the end...you will then use a wrench to loosen/tighten the plug....this will make your life so much easier...can I say 30min plug changes



but #6 and #8 can be done from the top fairly easy once you figure out how to hold your mouth.

 

facing front of the nose of the car reach your arm straight back through to them, you may have to use different socket's/extensions, but works for me. I can change all mine in less than 30 minutes most of the time...

 

Does anyone sell a short spark plug socket? I only have one and it's a pretty thick Craftsman piece. Don't think I'm going to cut through that with anything. I didn't really have too much of a problem with 1,3,5,7,2,4 but if this shorty will help with 6 & 8 I'll take it.

Can't do that. The alternator is in the way.

 

I have JetHot long tube headers as well. I usually take the starter out when changing plugs on 6 and 8. Time consuming, but no bloody knuckles.Lol. And those open ended spark plug socket help dramatically.

This is what I did so I could change plugs with my dynatech LTs. works like a charm! And yes pulling the starter helps a lot.

 

I also cut a spark plug socket with a hex head. Its best if you can find a socket that has the 5/8 hex head instead of the 3/4 because you can use a smaller wrench. Works awesome. I get 8 from the top and 6 from the bottom. Tubular k member makes it REALLY easy

 

How many plugs do you have???

 

On my old 3rd gen I had a spark plug socket I rounded the end on Like almost all the way to where the ratchet attatches Sometimes a cheapo socket is needed LoL Think outside the box Droppin the starter doesnt sound too bad LoL A socket cut in half & a ratchet wrench will work too Sometimes layin on top of the motor to twist & bend your arm works if youve got stuff in the way & dont wanna remove em

Buy the 1/2" drive Craftsman plug socket and cut it off, the Craftsman sockets cut easily with a hacksaw, and probably cost 5 or 6 bucks instead of 30.
