Default First time out on the 9" today at MIR

Took my car to the track today for the first time on the 9", and on the first pass ran a 12.88 at 106.55 with a 1.79 60' taking it easy with a 2446 DA. I found out 3 things:

1. It does NOT have 4.10s like I was told, I think its closer to 4.33s based on the fact that I crossed the line at over 135mph on the speedo and was on the rev limiter. This means I need a taller tire, so I was luckily able to set up with someone to trade my 26" ET streets for his 27" ET streets, we will make the trade this week.

2. In similar conditions last summer before the 9" I could only manage a 13.1 on a 1.9 60' at the same mph, so the gears, improved 60' and electric wp have given me at least 2 1/10ths. Being well into valve float and way past the power peak when I hit the line hurt my mph. I was only about 50% power shifting also. I think the car is capable of 12.1-12.2 if I can get my 60 down to 1.5 and put in new springs and roller rockers. I was being pretty easy off the line.

3. The car now weighs 3110 without me and 3285 with me. Last year it was 3010 without me and 3170 with me. Things that added weight were the 9", BMR torque arm, BMR LCAS, and UMI TA relocation mount. I also put back in the dash, carpet, door panels, head unit and 2 speakers, and rear pilar panels so I can qualify for street stock. I also gained 15lbs. Things that reduced weight was the catback is now just an 18" magnaflow bullet muffler and no more front crash supports. I need to gain 65lbs to make the 3350 race weight limit for street stock. I am kicking myself for throwing away those crash supports now, but I think the rear seat and spare tire and jack will get me there.

I have horrible valve float in the upper RPMs, I could just feel it nose dive at around 5000rpm. Just got Tims Valvespring removal tool, a set of 7/16 ARP studs and 1.6 crane NSA rockers, still looking for springs, but will be putting all that on in the next 2 weeks.

I also need a new clutch master cylinder, and I could use a new clutch. Its alot of work with only 17 days till the shootout, but Im going to try.

You will be right at the top of street stock with those numbers. I'd rock a set of LT4 springs. They are cheap as hell and will slip right in.

Assuming BG will have a similar DA, and that I can get the rockers put on in time, Im hoping for 12.4s in the heat at around 109. In the cool air in november is when Im hoping to be down around 12.1 at 112.

12.88 @ 106 on a stock head/cam engine? If so, I might hate you lol.

Nice times man.

Youll hate me more when I tell you I went 12.53 at 110.33 on a 1.87 60' last year without an electric waterpump or LS1 lid, and on the stock 3.42s in the 10 bolt. Its trapped 111 before too. CamaroRacing12 has gone faster at a higher race weight. All my ducks will have to be in a row and my shifts will have to be perfect, along with my reaction time, to be able to beat him at the shootout.

I did about a 4000 rpm dump on that 1.79 60', and DEAD HOOKED and bogged, had 20psi in the ET streets. Anybody have any advice on getting down that 60'? I feel like I need a little spinning to keep it from bogging, do I go up or down in PSI? I was going to try a 6000 rpm clutch dump but only got to make 2 passes before I had to leave.

I think you're right about getting a little wheel spin to get you moving. I would go up on the tire pressure to try an achieve some wheel spin. If you're dead hooking at 20 I would try going up 5 psi at a time until your close then bring it back down a couple until you get it right.

Im pretty stout in the suspension department given my low horsepower so I doubt any of that will give, 9", 31 spline axles, 4.33 gears, BMR chromoly LCAs with rod ends, BMR torque arm, UMI torque arm relocation mount, 3.5" chromoly driveshaft, bias ply ET streets, I think the weak link is my stock replacement clutch. I *think* it will slip enough to take some of the shock off of my stock transmission, but well see.
